Who will find love on our blind date? This week it’s Laura, 34, and Marcus, 27

Laura, 34 (pictured) has been single for seven months and has no children

LAURA, 34 years old

HAPPENED?

I got engaged in 2019, but we broke up in early 2021 when I realized the relationship just wasn’t making me happy. I was single for four years before that. I have never been on a dating app and never would. It’s just not my style. Over the years, I have found dates through friends of friends.

VITAL STATISTICS

Single for seven months, no children.

CURRENT ROLE

Director of a luxury printed travel magazine.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

An ambitious, successful and tall businessman with no children who loves to travel and be spontaneous. I’m not attracted to men without a work ethic.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

Not really. I’m used to meeting people on the job, so I took it in my stride. I was wearing a black and white bodycon dress with heels.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

Marcus got there first and looked so friendly and tall which is always a bonus. My initial feeling was that he was not my type, although I liked his cheerful smile and he gave me a warm and pleasant welcome.

EASY TO TALK TO?

He is really easy to talk to and we had a great conversation. We bonded through our love for the United States – Marcus is from America and I have traveled there over 20 times. I had even planned to move to LA earlier this year, but changed my mind due to family issues.

He made me laugh when he started taking notes on our conversation

We had so much in common, like our love for entrepreneurship, our commitment to becoming the best versions of ourselves and our family ethic. We love our families and both believe that life is about experiences and making memories.

The conversation was full of laughter and jokes; we were energetic and fun. At one point he made me laugh when he pulled out his phone to take notes on some of the things we talked about.

VERDICT DE LAURA: 7/10

LOVE? He was motivated and an absolute gentleman.

REGRETS? Not at all.

GOODBYE ? Like friends.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

Nothing like that.

DID THE SPARKS FLY?

I wouldn’t say there was flirting, but it was like a friendly conversation. It was more platonic than romantic, at least on my side. We followed each other on social media during the meeting and we are still in touch. I even sent her a picture of the two of us that I took during the meal.

DO YOU WANT TO MEET?

Not in a romantic way. I have the impression that we would meet more to talk about business.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THINKS OF YOU?

I really think he enjoyed my company and the meal, but I didn’t feel like he was flirting with me.

WILL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS LOVE IT?

Absolutely yes. He’s so easy going.

MARCUS, 27 years old

HAPPENED?

Most of my previous relationships have been with older women. However, recently I have dated women my age or younger. Most of my relationships ended because I moved around a lot with work. After being single for seven months, I have more confidence in my job and feel able to find a better balance.

VITAL STATISTICS

Single for seven months, no children.

CURRENT ROLE

Part-time streaming engineer and model.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

Someone with a passion for what they do, and who is charismatic, sensitive and independent. I am a loving and loving person so I would like to meet someone like this.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

I was really excited and looked forward to the date. I was wearing a blazer and a stylish shirt and shoes. I arrived 20 minutes early.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

Laura was definitely not what I expected – it was a pleasant surprise. She radiated confidence and independence and approached me to greet me with such enthusiasm. Her outfit was lovely too. She made me feel completely at ease.

EASY TO TALK TO?

It was so easy to talk to her and we dove pretty quickly into our lives and what happened. We both lost our father, so we talked about heartbreak, our background and how we got there. It was a fascinating conversation. Even though she is from Leeds and I am from Washington DC, we had very similar upbringings and found that we had a lot in common. There were a lot of jokes.

She is a vivacious woman who made me feel totally at ease

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

Not at all. I was wise.

DID THE SPARKS FLY?

MARCUS VERDICT: 9/10

LOVE? Laura is listening.

REGRETS? Nothing.

TO SEE HER AGAIN ? Yes.

There was no real flirtation. I’m normally a flirtatious person, but we started our conversation on a pretty deep personal topic and then we discussed our goals, so it was pretty intense, but in a good way. We are both very passionate about our dreams.

At the end of the meal, Laura suggested swapping Instagram numbers and handles – although if she hadn’t, I would. She is an amazing woman and I am so impressed with everything she has accomplished.

DO YOU WANT TO MEET?

Absoutely. We are chatting online so hopefully we can soon.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THINK OF YOU?

She seemed to be interested in what I was saying and hopefully thought I was a decent guy.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LOVE IT?

Oh yes. She feels like she comes from the same background as my family, so they would definitely get along.
