Getting started with Pride Counseling is relatively quick and easy. The first step is to create an account with your name or nickname, your email address and a password that you create. The nickname keeps your identity private but still provides a means of identifying you in the system. Once you have started meeting with your advisor, you will need to enter your emergency contact details.
The next step in the registration process takes approximately 10 minutes. It includes a series of questions about your gender identity, pronouns, age, relationship status, counseling history, sleeping and eating habits, and current health status. You also specify which type of advisor you prefer. This is followed by several questions about your current mental and physical health over the past two weeks – for example, whether your LGBTQ + identity contributes to your mental health issues, feelings of sadness or depression, loss of interest in activities you you usually like, and questions about suicide and suicidal ideation.
After answering the questions, you will be taken to the payment page to review the weekly cost and the amount to be billed immediately, which is an upfront payment for four weeks (financial aid is available for those who qualify).
Once the registration process is complete and your payment is processed, you should be connected with an advisor within 24 hours, although individual times may vary. You will receive an email notifying you of the match and directing you to the private chat room to learn more about the advisor, including his name, qualifications, interests, timing preferences and philosophy. The welcome message may also include “get to know you” questions from your advisor. You can use the chat room to start communicating with your advisor.
