by Katie Thurston Bachelorette The finale lasted three hours filled with tears, accusations, apologies and a proposal. But, the main focus is on who asked the Bachelorette the question. Well, until the finale, we didn’t know who Katie would end up with. However, I stand by the fact that I didn’t see any chemistry between her and Justin in the episodes leading up to the finale. Still, you never know who will kneel down and more importantly, who Katie will say yes to the wedding.
The final was a hybrid of After the Final Rose and a traditional finish. Hosts Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe recapped the drama of the season, including Greg: the nice boy turned ex-problem who stormed last week, leaving Katie to cry on her knees. (Honestly, this isn’t the best look of either.)
OK, let’s get into it. The episode begins with Blake’s one-on-one date. There are only two men left, which means that a rose is also an invitation to spend some time alone in the Fantasy Suite. Katie and Blake fight with balloons before entering the hot tub where Katie tells her about Greg leaving and how it affected her emotionally.
Afterwards, Blake confesses to the camera his reaction to his confession. “I love her a lot. But if Katie is still hooked on Greg and she can’t match that, then there’s no point in getting engaged if she’s having doubts,” he says. I mean, just .Nobody wants to propose to someone who still loves their ex. Their fears quickly died down on the “dinner portion” of their date. (I put dinner in quotes because they never… never eat. )
Blake says a lot of words before getting to the point: whether or not he likes Katie. So let’s go ahead. “It was the one, part of the night that just solidified things for me,” Blake says of their date in their hometown. “And that was when you took off your high heels and we were playing hockey. You scored a point and backed up after you scored it and your hands were in the air and yelled “Go America!” And that’s when I remembered that moment, that without thinking about it and without trying to think about it, I just realized. I was like, ‘Damn, I love her.’ “
Katie, who said she didn’t want to say the L-word until there was only one man left, broke her own rule. “As much as I want to be stubborn and do like you, it’s scary and it’s crazy, but I love you so much and I couldn’t be happier that you are here,” she replies. Lots of F-bombs are dropped, but so are L-bombs, so it’s always romantic.
They enter the fantasy suite (duh) and are shown kissing on the bed before it turns black. It’s ABC after all. The next morning they have breakfast in bed and Katie says the whole experience is “really perfect”. Greg, who?
Then comes the moment we’ve all seen coming: Katie breaks up with Justin. She says she has already told Blake that she loves him. Justin chokes, but eventually keeps his cool and goes home.
It’s time for Blake to meet Katie’s family! Oh boy, it’s okay. Katie’s mom is relatively easy going with Blake, but her aunt? She grills it and then, well, eviscerates it and it’s exciting to watch. Aunt Lindsey invites Blake for a one-on-one chat and asks him, “What made you want to continue this season after missing the last one?” Ouch. Blake says, “We just hit it off. We just click. I feel like I’ve known her forever.
Lindsey is not impressed. “You don’t want to say anything after all,” she replies. “I hate to tell you that. You better be safe walking into our family because at the end of the day you’re here because we want you here, not because we need you here.
Blake is holding on and he and Katie have their final date later in the episode. He’s looking at engagement rings with Tayshia (Neil Lane, of course). Blake seems uncomfortable, but he goes ahead with the purchase of the rings. When it’s time for him to meet Katie at their scenic proposal spot, I’m not sure what’s going to happen. will he propose? Will they leave boyfriend and girlfriend?
Katie opens up to Blake first and for a second I thought she was going to propose. I didn’t think she would kneel down because her dress wouldn’t allow it, but still. “This chemistry was instantaneous,” she tells Blake. “But I didn’t know I would fall head over heels in love with you.” You are caring and supportive, confident and passionate and you love me for me and it is a love that I didn’t even know existed… I love you today, tomorrow and forever and I can’t wait let our adventure begin.
Blake begins his final speech with more words about his love for Katie, but then drops a twist. “I can’t tell you why you came here. Because you deserve so much more than that, ”he says. Excuse me, what? They kiss (???) then he says, “That being said, Katie Lane Thurston, will you marry me?” She says yes, he gets the final rose, and I’m still confused about this odd proposition.
However, during the interview section of the show, they seem to be genuinely in love. Katie has already had time to denounce Greg and talk to Justin. She is completely ready to start her life with Blake and I actually hope their love will last.
