CLEMSON, SC — Team Lindley won the final two scrums of a three-scramble series against Team Corbitt to win the Clemson Super Regional title 2-1 Nov. 9-13. The three scrums were scheduled for seven innings, but the final scrum went into extra innings and was decided in eight innings.
Team Corbitt won the opening scrimmage 4-3 on Nathan Hall’s single on November 9. Billy Barlow also pitched 4.0 scoreless innings for Team Corbitt.
In the second scrimmage on Nov. 11, Team Lindley won 7-3, thanks to three-hit performances from Riley Bertram and Mac Starbuck and a solid relief outing from Willie Weiss, who pitched 2.2 innings. aimlessly for sure.
In the final on November 13, the Lindley team converted a scrimmage ending double play with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to win 4-3. Starbuck led the way with two hits and three RBIs for Team Lindley.
In addition to countless standout defensive plays in the series, Starbuck went 5-for-9 with four RBIs and one hit-for-shot to lead the Tigers offensively. Also for the Lindley team, Benjamin Blackwell was 4 for 9 with three points and two walks, while Bertram was 4 for 11 with four points. Lleyton Lackey (3 for 8) and David Lewis (3 for 9) also had strong runs for Team Lindley.
Cam Cannarella led Team Corbitt in the series going 3 for 9 with a brace, two walks, one hit per pitch and four steals. Caden Grice added two hits, five walks and three steals for Team Corbitt.
The Tigers will begin the spring training season in January before hosting their opener against Binghamton on February 17.
